Dress & Grooming
Students are expected to dress appropriately at all times. Any fashion (dress, accessory, or hairstyle) that disrupts the educational process or represents a safety risk will not be permitted.
Students should consider the following questions when dressing for school: Does my clothing expose too much? (No) (Fingertip rule) Does my clothing advertise something that is prohibited to minors? (No) Are there obscene, profane, drug-related, gang-related, or inflammatory messages on my clothing? (No) Am I dressed appropriately for the weather? (Yes) Do I feel comfortable with my appearance? (Yes)
Guidelines for GIRLS: 1) Hair should be neat and clean and of a natural color. 2) Slacks, jeans, skirts or dresses are preferred. Regular shorts are permitted if appropriate for the weather. Skirts, shorts, and dresses should be mid-thigh or longer in length. No biker pants or shorts are permitted. 3) Halter/tank tops or other clothing that exposes the midriff or back are not permitted. 4) Shoes must be worn at all times. High-heeled shoes and floppy, open-back sandals can be dangerous and should not be worn. 5) Excessive jewelry is not allowed. 6) Hats are not to be worn in the building during class time. 7) Coats are not to be worn in the building during class time.
Guidelines for BOYS: 1) Hair should be neat and clean and of a natural color. 2) Shirt tails must be tucked into pants if so designed. 3) Undershirts, muscle shirts, and tank tops are not permitted to be worn as a shirt. 4) Cutoffs and athletic shorts are not to be worn. Regular shorts may be worn if appropriate. 5) Hats are not to be worn in the building during class time. 6) Shoes must be worn at all times. Open back or floppy sandals can be dangerous and should not be worn. 7) Coats are not to be worn in the building during class time.
The principal and teachers maintain the option of correcting any student judged to be dressed inappropriately. Children may be sent home for violations of dress guidelines.
There will be special days through the year when clothing other than that which is specified in the guidelines may be worn. You will be advised of those days.
